Platinum Welcomes Coach, Andrew Stringfellow

Andrew Stringfellow grew up in Northern California after being adopted from the Philippine Islands at the age of 5 from a Catholic orphanage in the city of Alongapo. He grew up in the small town of Santa Rosa, Ca, which rests in the Wine country of Sonoma County. Along with his parents, he has 2 brothers that were also adopted but from Central America.

Andrew began his athletic training in Jr. High and High School, where he participated in track and field specializing in pole vault and playing on the high school football team in the off season. He was introduced to his passion at the age of 19 at the local Jr. College. This is where he found the wonder of Gymnastics and Martial Arts. After training for a year in gymnastics he was asked to be an instructor at Nova Gymnastics Academy and after that at Santa Rosa Gymnastics Center. While doing so he studied parts of Tae Kwon Do, Sho Rin Ryu Okinawan Style Karate, Lon Fu (a mixture of Karate and Kung Fu), Jujutsu, Aikido and later the Marine Corps Martial Arts System until finding his preferred method of Budo Taijutsu (a 900 year old Japanese based martial system of the Ninja and Samurai warriors.) Before starting his service in the United States Marine Corps in 1993 he studied dance, learning the disciplines of Ballet, Jazz and Modern dance. While doing so he had the opportunity to travel to the L.A. area to Dance and Model Professionally.

Andrew was a Communications and Navigation technician in the USMC Air Wing. He worked on C-130’s as a Com/Nav Tech. and achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1998. While stationed at El Toro MCAS in Irvine, Andrew began training with Shihan (Master Instructor) Kyle Hayes. Sensei Hayes holds the rank of Jugodan (15th Degree Black Belt). He is the 199th in the world to earn this title.

Throughout and after his service in the Marine Corps, Andrew continued teaching gymnastics and was a Sr. Gymnastics Instructor at the Academy of Olympic Gymnastics in Mission Viejo, Ca.  He was responsible for teaching and training gymnastics for ages ranging from 14 months (“Mommy and Me” classes) to adult both Men’s and Women’s recreational gymnastics classes. He was also a Special Olympics Gymnastics Instructor. He also specializes in martial tumbling, cheer tumbling, coordinating and instructing group and private lessons. As a senior instructor he helped train junior instructors for the recreational and team gymnastics program. Andrew was also the Boys program director and head team coach for the Men’s gymnastics levels 5, 6 and 7.

Andrew was also the Head Gymnastics/ Safety and Cheer Tumbling Instructor at the SURF Cheer Gym in San Juan Capistrano, Ca. He was their advisor of proper gymnastic technique to all instructors, 5 teams and all Recreational tumbling classes. Andrew has been teaching gymnastics for over 23 years and loves every minute of it.

Andrew is a member of International Bujinkan Dojo. He was promoted to Assistant Instructor in May 2004 at rank of 1st Degree Black Belt (Shodan) while in Japan. He was awarded Title of “Shidoshi (Teacher of the Warrior Ways)”with Instructors license after passing the 5th Degree Black belt (Godan) test in May of 2007 while on his second trip to Japan for training. He is currently a 6th Degree Black Belt and is a member of the Shidoshi-Kai (Instructors Guild) headed by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi the “Soke” (Grandmaster) of the tradition. Andrew takes his direction from Kyle Hayes Sensei directly and trains with Sensei Hayes on a regular basis going to his instructors training course held every 3 to 4 months at his dojo in Orange County in the city of Mission Viejo. Sensei Andrew Stringfellow travels to Japan with Kyle Hayes Sensei to train with the Grand Master and the other Shihan when his schedule permits.

After obtaining his Second Degree black Belt Andrew began his work in the field of Executive Protection (Body Guarding). He has worked in this field for the last 10 years. He also assists as a Fugitive Recovery Agent (Bounty Hunter). In 2012 he traveled to Seattle Washington to train an Army PSD (Physical Security Detail) Unit that was soon to be deployed to Afghanistan. He trained them in hand to hand combat, knife fighting skills and weapon retention techniques. They were tasked with the proper protection detail of their unit Commander while in country. Andrew has trained members of Ventura County Police and Orange County Sheriffs department in their hand to hand and close quarter weapons techniques and currently trains a member of the Ventura Police SWAT division on a regular basis in advanced hand to hand and weapons techniques.
